Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment)

Under supervision of the Motor Equipment Maintenance Supervisor 1 or higher-level supervisor, the Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) will service, maintain and repair the park's motorized equipment. 1. Diagnoses and performs major and minor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs on self-propelled and non-self-propelled vehicles and equipment. 2. Repairs bodies, fenders, and chassis on self-propelled and non-self-propelled vehicles and equipment. 3. Maintains gasoline, alternative fuel, and diesel engines; performs preventive maintenance and safety inspections of vehicles and equipment. When licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles, may perform NYS Motor Vehicle Inspections. 4. Maintains diesel powered equipment and components such as, hydraulic systems, transmissions and differentials, hydraulic and air brakes, automotive electronics, fuel injection systems, turbochargers and starting systems. 5. Operates test equipment, hand and power tools, including equipment that assists in the diagnosis and repair of electronic engine control systems. 6. Welds, cuts, and brazes a variety of materials using electric or oxy-acetylene welding equipment. 7. Operates a variety of self-propelled motor vehicles and non-self-propelled vehicles and equipment to test proper operation. Operates light trucks, dump trucks, flat bed, refuse trucks, snowplows, passenger vehicles, tractors, wheeled loaders, UTVs, sit-down mowers, and other equipment as required; 8. Inspect work area and facility for safety hazards and carries out corrective actions to reduce or eliminate risk to employee safety; 9. Load, move, carry or unload materials of varying weights and sizes as required in the performance of duties assigned; 10. Perform other related duties as required.

Salary Range:
From $43484 to $53081 Annually
Minimum Qualification
four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems OR an associate's degree in automotive or diesel repair technology. Substitution:
Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience. Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as B.O.C.E.S, in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience. Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
