Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment)

This position is a skilled-trades responsible for the mechanic and technician duties at Jones Beach State Park. In this position, the Service & Repair Mechanic's primary responsibility is to perform journey-level motor equipment repair. Duties include, but are not limited to:
o Diagnoses the cause of breakdowns and for performing major and minor mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs on self-propelled and non-self-propelled mowers, tractors, attachments, vehicles and equipment. o Works on various equipment such as heavy and light trucks, bulldozers, excavators, compressors, rollers, various mowing equipment, and chain saws and other small-engine equipment, as well as perform routine preventive maintenance and vehicle safety inspections on a routine basis. o Performs various welding and metal fabrication duties as needed. Metal fabrication will involve not only motor equipment but also fabrication for various purposes as needed. o Operates and supervises the machine shop, which houses various specialized equipment for fabrication and metal working. o Must have a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the craft to which assigned and train others, lay out work and diagnose problems; read and interpret plans, diagrams and specifications, must be able to work independently and understand and carry out written and oral instructions. o Performs NYS vehicle inspections. o Performs supervisory duties for lower-level or seasonal garage employees and ensure that instructions have been followed and the quality of work is satisfactory. o Required to operate various motor vehicles for towing/hauling and snow plowing/removal as needed.

Salary Range:
From $50617 to $61103 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems OR an associate's degree in automotive or diesel repair technology. Substitution:
Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience. 1. Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as B.O.C.E.S, in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience. 2. Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
